Seating depth issue
Got a set of Hornady Match dies and seating some 308 ELD-X had a problem. I got it setup and thought I had it adjusted. I was seating to 2.800. I was getting 2.799-2.801 but about 1 out of 3 would be 2.808-810. I could feel a slight crunch on the longer ones. What is throwing me is that I ended up with 2 groups both within .002-.003 within the group.
Appreciate in insight y’all can offer.

Were they all with the same powder and powder charge weight?

Yes all 43.0 Varget in Hornady brass.

One last question, are you weighing each charge or using a powder measure? If extruded powders settle differently inside the case, it could definitely change how much the case is filled by the powder, this causing the crunching you’re experiencing on some of the rounds. Using a long drop tube and dumping the powder in the case the same way every time can help with this problem. If using a powder measure, your charge weights can vary up to .5 grain with varget, in my experience.

Measuring each charge but will try tapping the case after powder before seating to see if getting the powder to settle helps. The thing that has me scratching my head is how consistent they are measuring both COL and off Ogive.

Your probably loading a slightly compressed load I'd suggest getting a funnel with a drop tube or build one like I did.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ba96268f27.jpg

You have a vibrating tooth brush? Just put your finger over the end and touch your toothbrush to it for a few seconds or hold it on top of your vibratory cleaner:

They cover drop tubes, tumblers and tooth brushes for dealing with compressed loads :)
