Is it normal to get tiny slivers of brass while crimping? It seems to give just a bit of resistance entering the die mouth.

Yep. Happens all the time and is nothing to worry about. Thicker cases tend to shave a bit, and the sharp edge on the case mouth gets broken off ever so slightly .
You can get larger slivers if you bell the case mouth a bit too much though. Made that mistake LOL.
I've had luck minimizing the shavings by deburring case mouths.
