.300 blackout process order question

I just got my first press mounted to my bench yesterday. Was doing some resizing of .300blk brass today and started realizing ive touched them a lot and still have a long way to go.

Does this order of things look right? I plan on using cast / coated bullets and will be salt annealing. I also tumble in Walnut.

- Tumbling with polish media
- Depriming / Resizing
- Removing sizing wax (I tumbled for 15 mins but maybe I could wipe it off)
- Trimming / Chamfering / Deburring
- Salt bath annealing
- Opening the case mouth to accept coated bullet
- Prime
- Powder
- Seat Bullet
- Crimp


On cases I am making out of .223 I would just add:
- Initial Quick Tumble
- Cut cases


Am I setup for success with this or is there a better way? Thanks in advance for dealing with my questions going forward as I learn!

I don’t anneal, but everything else sounds like it’s in good order. I was wondering if maybe you should anneal before sizing? Maybe someone else will chime in.

I size then trim then tumble to remove the sizing wax.

Backcountry, with so little to hang onto with the. 300blk I figured not having wax on it would help me hang onto it in this case prep center.

JTD I went back and forth on that. My thought is that it's better for it to be more malleable for firing vs slightly work hardened after sizing. It may not matter either way though but would love to hear more thoughts on it from those that have done it.

Yeah certainly no harm in tumbling before trim. I just do it to condense operations for time savings.

I may quickly be circling back to that idea :) I need to shoot more to make this reloading time make more sense. Do you form your own .300blk brass? Do you chamfer and deburr after cutting the .223? I didnt on some but didnt like how a couple felt going in the sizing die so I hit the rest real quick. Its not a carbide die.

I looked into doing my own but Wes had too many good sales on brass. [emoji41] Only in the last year have I had to start processing my 1x stuff. Even then I bought more brass recently. I got big ham hands and they aren’t unruly to trim with wax on them still. I use a RCBS trim pro 2 with the 3 way cutter and a cordless drill.

Im using a Franford Arsenal trim center and theres like 1/4" of brass sticking out to hang onto lol. I bought 500 pcs of brass from Wes that I didnt have to do anything to. I currently have 1000 more sitting in my cart lol. Its nice to know I can make my own if I have to but avoiding a lot of work wouldnt be a bad thing for the first reload. Thank you again.
