I just picked up a Clark Custom .460 Rowland 1911 conversion kit for 5" 1911's. The trade included a few hundred pieces of brass and some 230gr JHP rounds from Georgia Arms.
Any of you have experience loading this round for hunting? The trade came with the original instruction sheet from Mr. Rowland that included some suggested loads for various purposes using Hodgdon Longshot.
I owned one when they first came out. Loaded some rounds of various weights.
Never got it to do what I wanted, didn't like the brass cost, and it tosses brass 30 feet away.
It sat in my safe for years, and I sold it for $200 with all my supplies.
Seems a few people like it, and it may have its place.
I ran it on a colt commander in 4.25"
I would say it would work for hunting if you are close and can pistol shoot decently.
I had it for a bear gun, but went with a 4" 44mag instead
Some shots in the woods in N. La. can be in the 50-75 yards for white tail. Many have been taken by .357 and .44. The .460 Rowland should do just fine. And we do get black bear around here a lot, but if you shoot one you better have claw marks on your face as you lay out your self defense claim!
I had thought of getting one before, but did not want to drop the $! When I had the opportunity to get the used kit with ammo and brass on a good trade, I had to jump in!
