I love mine. It’s a ruger77 frontier. 16” barrel. I shoot 160gr TTSX with 8208. Velocity is just under 2800 with this combination. I opted for the lighter bullet to make up velocity because of the short barrel. It’s a killer. muforester has one also, he may chime in here as well.

Still testing loads but I had good luck with 200gr Speer Hot-Cors. Tried 200gr Nosler Accubonds, but didnt have the best luck. Mainly used TAC powder and Varget. Just put together a load with 200gr Nosler Silver Tips and H335. Havent got to test it yet.Quote:

Mine has the recoil of a 308. With 160gr and 185gr loads it is moderate recoil, even with the short barrel and light rifle. My wife uses it when she goes hunting with me.

It is less than a 30-06 for sure. Mine is in a TC Encore. It was a 28" barrel but I just had it shortened to 21".Quote:

IMO the 338Fed really shines in an AR platform. It brings the terminal energy levels up,at distance,over the "standard" chamberings. --- SAWMAN
She’s 5’3”. That boar weighed in at just under 260lbs. That 160gr barnes ttsx scrambled his insides up pretty good.
