200 grain in 44 Mag for Bear?
Bear season opening this week here in South Georgia. I’m kind of a newbie at it. Guys I hunt with are old hats at it, and they say I’ll be fine.
My Marlin 1894 44 spits out 200 grain Hornadys with crazy accuracy. Heavy bullets, not so good. Are they tough enough for bear? They’ve performed great on large Ohio deer in the past. But what about a potentially 400 pound plus bear at close range? We’ve got some monsters on the trail cams, I’d hate to be undergunned.
Any thoughts?

If it were me, I would opt for a bigger bullet. 265gr hornady FP or the 300gr xtp. If you must shoot lighter bullets, you may be able to find a hard cast bullet that your rifle likes. No bears in this part of Texas, but we do deal with some large feral hogs.
